The pituitary is a small, just 1 cm pea-sized land in our brain which is called a master gland. It orchesters all the major functions in the body. It secretes 7 hormones
- Anterior pituitary
- FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone)
- LH (Luteinizing hormone)
- TSH (Thyroid-stimulating hormone)
- GH (Growth hormone)
- ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic hormone)
- Posterior pituitary
- ADH( Anti diuretic hormone)/Vasopressin
- Oxytocin
A pituitary tumour (adenoma) may form and such a tumour might secrete one or more of the above hormones and give rise to specific symptoms. As the pituitary gland lies in close proximity to the optic chiasma, a large tumour (macroadenoma) can give rise to compression of visual nerve and vision loss. Here in Harmony center we evaluate the patient completely for any such hormonal excess and treat accordingly.
